Midlands Mediation Center’s Introduction to Mediation training emphasizes skills necessary for anyone who wants to empower and transform by understanding and resolving conflicts, improving relationships and strengthening families, communities, organizations and workplaces. Topics covered during 20 hours of classroom instruction and role plays include Dynamics of Conflict, Dispute Resolution Styles, Active Listening Skills and the Mediation Process. This series is open to 10-20 individuals and is well-suited for business, non-profit, human resources, and law enforcement professionals. Seats are offered on a space-available, first-paid, first-served basis.
Led by Midlands Mediation Center Executive Diane Frea, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, M.A., and cast of guest presenters.
This series will have a special emphasis on training volunteers to conduct community-based mediations as an alternative to litigation. A limited number of scholarships are offered in exchange for a commitment to complete the observation requirement and be available to volunteer to mediate community cases. A separate scholarship application is required; MMC Community Mediation Scholarship Application (Jan. 2018) (Return it to email@example.com by no later than 12.25.2017.)
Food: Lunches will be provided on Thursday and Friday; Monday lunch is on your own. Light snacks and water will be available throughout.
In the event of cancellation of registration prior to Jan. 19, a partial refund (less $25) will be available. After Jan. 19, no refund is offered. However, a paid registration may be applied to a future training series. You must attend all session to receive a certificate of attendance, and no refund will be made for missed sessions.
Disclaimer: This training is not a certification in mediation and does not provide an expectation of work or income from mediation. An additional 20 hours of “lab” observation and co-mediation in semi-monthly small claims magistrate court prepares participants to serve as MMC volunteer mediators. If choosing the 40-hour option, you will need to complete an MMC volunteer mediator application after the classroom portion.
